Trader Joe’s Cashews Recalled in 16 States Due to Salmonella

Trader Joe’s customers who bought cashews recently should take a second look at their purchase. The grocer has recalled one specific packaged nut product in 16 states that may contain Salmonella.

In a press release, the company states, “We are recalling Trader Joe’s 50% Less Salt Roasted & Salted Whole Cashews (SKU# 37884).” The 16 states in question are Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Washington.

The announcement continued by adding, “The product may have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. No illnesses have been reported to date.”

According to Trader Joe’s, four batches with different lot codes and best-before dates were affected:

• Lot No: T12139, Best Before Feb. 21, 2025
• Lot No: T12140, Best Before March 1, 2025
• Lot No: T12141, Best Before March 8, 2025
• Lot No: T12142, Best Before March 10, 2025

“If you purchased product with these lot codes, please discard it or return it to any Trader Joe’s for a full refund,” the retailer stated.

Salmonella is “an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” according to the Food and Drug Administration. Symptoms of salmonella infection can include nausea, diarrhea, fever, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

This is just the latest in a series of products the company has recalled. Trader Joe’s has had several recalls in 2023 and 2024.

On Feb. 5, 2024, Rio-López Foods recalled dairy products, including cotija cheese, sold in Trader Joe’s stores nationwide. This includes Trader Joe’s Chicken Enchiladas Verde, Cilantro Salad Dressing, Elote Chopped Salad Kit, and Southwest Salad.

At the beginning of March 2024, CJ Foods Manufacturing Beaumont Corporation recalled approximately 61,839 pounds of steamed chicken soup dumplings due to possible plastic contamination.

In 2023, the company recalled products due to potential Listeria monocytogenes. Bakkavor USA voluntarily recalled its Genova Pesto due to undeclared milk and walnuts, and the company recalled its Almond Windmill Cookies due to possible rocks.
