Palmer Candy Company Recalls 29 Products for Possible Salmonella Contamination
May 8, 2024
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recalled 29 of Palmer Candy Company’s white-coated confectionary items because of the potential for salmonella contamination. This organism can cause severe and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or older adults, and others with weakened immune systems.
The recalled confectionary items were distributed nationwide in retail stores and wholesale markets. These include Walmart, Dollar General, Target, Hy-Vee, and distributors in Alabama, California, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Palmer Candy was notified by its liquid coating supplier that there was a potential for contamination with salmonella from an ingredient utilized by one of their suppliers. Production of the product has been suspended while the FDA and Palmer Candy Company continue investigating the source of the problem.

The complete list of affected products is on the FDA’s announcement page. So far, 29 products have been affected, including caramel swirl pretzels, white fudge mini cookies, zebra fudge cookies, and assorted snack blends containing pretzels, chocolate, and other candy.
