Chevy Unveils New Corvette, Its Most Powerful Ever

July 29, 2024

Muscle-car fans, you may salivate.

Chevrolet recently introduced a new version of its fabled ZR1 Corvette, a 1,064-horsepower redesigned monster that’s not only its mightiest version ever, but “the most powerful V8 ever produced in America from an auto manufacturer,” according to the company.

The 2025 ZR1 Corvette, which won’t hit dealerships until next year, features a 5.5-liter, twin-turbocharged DOHC flat-plane crank V8 engine dubbed the LT7. GM, Chevy’s parent, estimates that the ZR1 Corvette hits a top speed of over 215 mph on the racetrack and can fly in at under 10 seconds on the quarter mile. With that performance, it makes sense why the company has brought back the ZR1’s “King of the Hill” messaging.

The sleek new design revives the split rear window of Corvettes’ past. Additionally, the ZR1 has an optional ZTK performance package, highlighted by a giant hood extractor, a massive rear wing, tighter suspension, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.

The ZR1 was tested at demanding racetracks around the world, including the Nürburgring, Road Atlanta, and Virginia International Raceway, the company said.

“We went into the ZR1 program with lofty goals, but even our first development tests on-track showed the teams were already exceeding them,” Tadge Juechter, Corvette’s executive chief engineer, said in a statement. “As we worked to develop this car, we continued to leap past expectations, and we knew we had a special Corvette on our hands.”

The sports car will be manufactured at the General Motors Bowling Green, Kentucky, assembly plant, where the company also makes the Corvette Stingray, Z06, and E-Ray.

The company said details on price would be shared closer to its production schedule, but Car and Driver reported that the ZR1 is expected to start around $180,000 and go up to $205,000, depending on the trim and features.
