Uber Unveils New Changes, Including Costco Perks & Shuttle Rides
May 16, 2024
Uber has announced a slew of new changes at its annual Go-Get showcase, including shuttle rides to airports and perks for Costco customers.
CNBC reported that the rideshare giant’s goal was to help customers save money on food and transportation, while also potentially attracting new users to the app.
There were six major changes announced at this year’s Go-Get showcase.
Uber Caregiver
The company is now offering an option for those who have a full-time caregiver in their employ, as they will now be allowed to book rides and order medical supplies and groceries on behalf of their patients at no additional cost. Best of all, the option accepts Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and most employer-provided insurance plans.
Uber One for Students
The subscription-based option, originally priced at $9.99 a month, will now be offered to students for $4.99 a month.
Uber Shuttle
The rideshare giant is now partnering with shuttle services to offer its customers an affordable ride to the airport, as well as to work, stadiums, and other live events. Users will be able to reserve up to five seats on each shuttle at a time, out of a total of between 14 and 55 seats on each shuttle. The shuttles will be a “fraction of the cost of an UberX ride,” per the company.
Its first offerings will be available this summer at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, along with certain concert venues in Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Charlotte, North Carolina, with more to come in the future, according to Uber.
Costco & UberEats
As of Wednesday, May 15, Costco is now offering an on-demand option within Uber Eats for grocery delivery in select U.S. locations. Uber stated that non-members can order products too, but members will save from 15% to 20% on purchases in comparison.
Lists
Are there some irresistible restaurants that you can’t live without? The company is now offering “Lists,” which offers users the option to create several specially curated lists of options for things like “date nights” and “toddler-friendly restaurants.”
Schedule UberX Share
A new feature allows users to schedule a shared ride at least 10 minutes in advance, which will help them save 25% on average. This offering will first be introduced in “cities with some of the highest return-to-office rates,” such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Atlanta, and Chicago, though more locations will be added, according to Uber.
News of these updates comes in the wake of Instacart’s new partnership with the ridesharing giant.
Customers of Instacart can now order restaurant delivery from Uber Eats thanks to a partnership between the firm and Uber Technologies Inc.
According to a press release, Instacart users will be able to use their app to place orders from Uber Eats-powered restaurants in the upcoming weeks. They will start their shopping journey in the “Restaurants” area of the Instacart app. Customers will then be able to select from a variety of neighboring eateries with this tab. In addition, they may place orders, peruse menus, and follow the delivery in real time.
