These Are the Worst Foods To Order at Subway
July 30, 2024
Subway is nothing if not a controversial fast-food restaurant. It has been the subject of a myriad of lawsuits based on its “tuna” (which isn’t really tuna) and its bread. However, it remains one of the most popular restaurants in the United States. Recently, however, an employee of the chain gave its customers some tips about the worst foods to order, and she cited her own experience with the restaurant as evidence. Here’s what she said.
Bad Subway Foods
Last year, after touring four locations in Southern California, Business Insider writer Nancy Luna made a number of recommendations for enhancements. These include keeping all storefronts remodeled, lowering the number of stores in oversaturated locations, improving the bread and tuna quality, and keeping eateries tidy and stocked in order to improve the dining experience for patrons.
But a recent viral TikTok video by @tamannaagicha shows that while the restaurant is aware of its issues, it still has plenty of improvements it needs to make.

The TikTok video contains some of the most startling facts regarding the restaurant’s meatballs. In the video, it is stated that “they make the balls in the microwave and then put them in the same old sauce from before.” The texture and flavor of the meatballs can be greatly impacted by this preparation technique, which entails microwaving them rather than cooking them from scratch.
A popular comfort dish for many, broccoli cheddar soup, is also emphasized in the video for its less-than-ideal preparation. The video says, “They keep reusing it till it finishes.” This means that instead of making soup fresh every day, it is warmed and served until the entire pot is gone.
Similarly, the chicken noodle soup is also repurposed until it’s finished. The texture and flavor of the soup may deteriorate as a result of this constant reheating, with the veggies losing their firmness and the noodles being mushy. This method might not live up to the expectations — or health code — of people looking for a hearty, freshly cooked soup.
Finally, @tamannaagicha pointed out something interesting about Subway’s light mayo. “There’s nothing wrong with it, but we just use regular mayo,” the video said.
Controversy Abounds
Comprehending these operational procedures can empower customers to make more knowledgeable decisions when dining at the popular sandwich chain. Ordering decisions can be influenced by understanding how food is made, even though flavor and convenience are frequently the main factors. It’s important to remember, though, that each restaurant is unique.
Viewers have also engaged in a heated debate about the video, with some highlighting the differences between various Subway franchises. “Reminder that every Subway is franchised and it really depends on the owner,” a person wrote. “Some Subways do things differently,” they added, emphasizing the possibility that different locations may employ distinct procedures. On the other hand, someone who claimed to work for the company refuted the assertions made in the video, saying, “This isn’t true. At least not for the Subway I work at.”
Meanwhile, the sandwich chain continues to try to entice new customers with updated menu offerings. According to a press release dropped by the sandwich retailer earlier this month, three new Subway Series sandwiches — Honey Mustard BBQ Chicken, Spicy Nacho Chicken, and Cheesy Garlic Steak — are currently being offered to customers.
“Subway’s new menu update is all about great flavor at a great value and giving our guests new ways to take their footlong subs and snacks to the next level,” said Paul Fabre, senior vice president of culinary innovation at Subway, in a statement accompanying the press release. “These bold new bites offer even more compelling reasons to visit your local Subway restaurant this summer to discover your new favorite footlong.”
