Major Changes Are Coming to Burger King. Here’s What They Are

July 19, 2024

Burger King has announced that it is implementing major changes to its restaurants nationwide. These major changes include an initiative called “Reclaim the Flame,” which is intended to draw new customers into its faltering locations. Let’s take a look at what else we know about these changes.

Burger King’s Major Changes: The Good, the Bad, and the Catchy

According to Eat This, Not That, Burger King’s “Reclaim the Flame” campaign places a strong emphasis on showcasing its iconic Whopper with new flavor variations and premium branding. Additionally, the restaurant is seeking fans to help design its upcoming major Whopper creation this year.

Burger King’s “Reclaim the Flame” campaign featured a $250 million investment to renovate locations with new culinary equipment, technology, and a more contemporary style, in addition to giving the Whopper the respect it deserves. The business declared in April 2024 that it would add $300 million more to its retail renovation budget.

Furthermore, the massive fast-food chain formally said goodbye to its original mozzarella sticks in May of this year, but it quickly replaced them with Mozzarella Fries — a distinctive take on the well-liked snack.

Although the Mozzarella Fries were first made available as a test item in Columbus, Ohio, in 2023, they are now a permanent menu item at Burger King locations throughout the country.

Burger King is introducing a number of intriguing new items to its menu, not only Whoppers and fries. Since the beginning of the year, the company has been releasing brand-new dishes, drinks, and desserts at a breakneck speed.

The new offerings include a Philly Melt, a new Birthday Pie Slice, a Philly Royal Crispy Wrap, and a new Fiery Menu with five fiery dishes and drinks. Burger King also tested a line of flame-grilled chicken sandwiches and wraps in a few markets in June, and it had a limited-edition frozen cotton candy beverage tested this spring.

Additionally, the restaurant offered a $5 Your Way value meal to directly compete with McDonald’s $5 Value Meal. And finally, parent company Restaurant Brands International (RBI) believes that the massive store closures that punctuated the beginning of the year are now over.

“We believe most of these closures are behind us and expect a more normalized level of closure activity in 2024,” said RBI CEO Josh Kobza during a February earnings call.

Viral News

Earlier this week, Burger King made headlines all over the world when it was announced that a mother-son team in Mississippi had been fired after a photo went viral.

According to WLBT-3, Shakayla Dixon, Corderrion Valentine, and three other individuals were reportedly dismissed after Dixon — the manager of a restaurant in Clinton, Mississippi — shared a picture of Valentine and three of his buddies from the establishment on Facebook.

Dixon stated that before classes resumed in the fall, she wished to assist the guys in earning additional cash. “After the post, probably like later that evening, the post started doing numbers. It got to like 1K at that point,” she told the publication.

Multihyphenate Nick Cannon then re-posted the photo, which reached millions of followers. After that, Burger King sent a district manager to the region because they were “concerned” about Dixon’s recruiting procedures.

“I got a call from my area manager and my district leader,” Dixon said. “She said we don’t want to turn something good into something bad, but we have some concerns. The concerns she had were the fact that Corderrion is my son and how much money they were getting paid.”

She continued: “She told me that a minor is supposed to get paid differently than what an adult gets paid. It was never brought to my attention beforehand. My things were when it came down to policy. I feel like policy wasn’t in play in the beginning.”

Dixon and the four teenagers were officially fired from their positions late last week.
