Costco’s Emergency Food Bucket Is a Must-Have for Apocalypse-Minded Shoppers
July 19, 2024
Costco is selling an emergency food bucket that can last 25 years. It comes stuffed with 150 servings of meals for those who like to be ready for any situation.
The big-box store sells Readywise containers of food online. It contains “80 servings of hearty entrees & sides, 30 servings for nourishing breakfasts, and an additional 40 drink servings.” The meal options range from teriyaki rice, tomato basil soup, and Alfredo pasta to cheesy macaroni and apple cinnamon cereal.
The Costco listing continues, “By simply adding water, these carefully crafted meals transform into satisfying dishes within minutes. This convenience isn’t just about simplicity; it’s about maintaining a sense of normalcy when the world around you might feel anything but normal.”
As more people become what is commonly known as “preppers,” or those who prepare for any emergency situation by having enough staples on hand, these types of items are becoming more popular. Prepping has grown in popularity among those who stockpile goods and skill up for extreme catastrophes.
The Costco bucket became a social media sensation after cookbook author Jeffrey Eisner posted a video on Instagram. “I guess this is for when the apocalypse hits, which could be any time now, right? Who knows?” Eisner said. “So you know, when the world collapses and caves in, as long as you have your Readywise Emergency Food Supply, all’s right with the world.”
“I really want to sample this,” he says at the end of the video. “Why don’t they have this here for free samples?”
Speaking to Today, Eisner reflected on the overall response he received from this video. The level of viewership shocked him, especially the conversation that followed.
“Is it a bad thing to have something like that in your house?” he questioned. “I would say it’s probably better to have it than not to have it.”
