Ford Shifts Gears and Expands Super Duty Truck Production to Canada
July 20, 2024
Ford is expanding production of the F-Series Super Duty trucks by adding a third assembly plant in North America at the Oakville Assembly Complex in Ontario, Canada. The expansion is part of Ford’s broader Ford+ plan for profitable growth, enhancing its global truck leadership and commercial business.
Furthermore, Ford also claims the investment will benefit the workforce by creating approximately 1,800 jobs at the Oakville plant and 150 jobs at the Windsor Engine Complex in Canada, with additional jobs and overtime at U.S. component plants.
Ford is investing around $3 billion in this expansion, including $2.3 billion for assembly and stamping operations at Oakville, making it a fully flexible plant. The move will allow Ford to better meet the strong and growing demand for Super Duty trucks, which are essential for many businesses and industries.
This expansion also aligns with Ford’s commitment to growing its electric vehicle business, including future three-row electric utility vehicles. According to the company, building these F-Series Super Duty pickups is also, “boosting production of one of the company’s most popular and profitable vehicles.”
This move aims to meet the high demand from Ford Pro customers and includes an initial capacity of 100,000 trucks, incorporating future multi-energy technology.
The base model 2024 Ford F-250 XL features a 6.8-liter 2-Valve DEVCT NA PFI V-8 gas engine paired with a TorqShift-G 10-speed transmission. It includes AdvanceTrac with RSC (Roll Stability Control) and Trailer Sway Control for enhanced safety, integrated box side steps and rear corner bumper steps for convenience, and 5G Wi-Fi connectivity. Additional features include a trailer brake controller and SYNC 4 with an 8-inch LCD touchscreen. The starting MSRP is $44,970.
This truck excels in towing and hauling, boasting best-in-class capacities like a 40,000-pound gooseneck tow rating when properly equipped. The “Built Ford Tough” designation underscores its durability and capability, making it ideal for moving heavy loads.
