Indie Game Developer Humble Games Lets Go of All Employees Amid ‘Restructuring’

July 24, 2024

Indie game developer Humble Games has confirmed it is “restructuring” after news that the company laid off its entire team of 36 employees spread online.

According to Forbes, the information spread on social media from former team members, and in response, Humble Games made an official statement on X to stress that the company is not shutting down — as a former employee claimed on LinkedIn — but rather restructuring.

The statement reads, “In these challenging economic times for indie game publishing, Humble Games has made the difficult but necessary decision to restructure our operations. This decision was not made lightly; it involved much deliberation and careful thought, with the goal of ensuring the stability and support of our developers and ongoing projects. Additionally, the restructuring of operations at Humble Games will have no impact on operations at Humble Bundle.”

The statement also recognizes the contributions of the team members who were laid off, saying, “We are acutely aware of the profound impact this decision has on our team members at Humble Games and deeply empathize with everyone affected. Our team’s contributions have been world-class and invaluable, supporting the launch of our games since we started publishing in 2017. We are committed to navigating this transition with as much empathy and understanding as possible.”

Humble Games goes on to close its statement by explaining how it will continue to support the team members who were let go. The indie games developer claims it will make the transition as smooth as possible for everyone.

A Humble Games PR representative reached out to Engadget, explaining that this restructuring would not mean the company is shutting its doors. He noted that “both ongoing and upcoming projects would continue to be supported and published by the studio.”

Per the outlet, Humble Games operates separately from the charity storefront Humble Bundle, which “is also part of Ziff Davis but does not appear to be impacted by today’s news.”
