McDonald’s Recent Test Might Lead to the Return of a Fan-Favorite Menu Item
July 26, 2024
McDonald’s customers have been clamoring for the return of a longtime fan favorite menu item, and there’s some suggestion that their wish may come true following the successful testing of an item in a limited market.
Food & Wine is reporting that the Snack Wrap may be making a return nationwide. The popular item was last on the menu in 2016.
The outlet’s theory stems from a popular foodie TikTok account SnackWithZach, who reported that the fast-food giant has just finished a pilot test of the McCrispy chicken tenders in seven locations in North Carolina, and it was a rousing success.
@snachwithzach McDonald’s is currently testing McCrispy CHICKEN STRIPS right now at select locations. For all of you Snack Wrap/Chicken Selects fans, this is a big step towards getting back some of your nostalgic favorites, at least in some way. The test is currently taking place at several stores in North Carolina, and while it’s quite limited, its a great indicator of @McDonald’s future plans for the McCrispy platform as well as the snack wrap which they hinted could eventually be returning sometime during in 2025. This is the first real news we’ve had around any developments outside of sandwiches, so I for one am EXCITED. How do you guys feel about the news? Are you ready for McCrispy chicken strips? #fastfood#mcdonalds#foodnews#snackwrap#chickensandwich#friedchicken#crispychicken#mccrispy#chickentenders#mcdonaldshacks#foodtok#fastfoodlife ♬ original sound – snachwithzach
The well-known social media personality claims that the McCrispy chicken tenders are “the missing link we’ve needed” to bring back the Snack Wrap.
Zach’s leap from the McCrispy test to that super-popular Snack Wrap is due to something McDonald’s USA President Joe Erlinger stated in a call with investors last December.
“In the US business, we have three really strong chicken brands between McChicken, Chicken McNuggets, and obviously McCrispy,” Erlinger said. “But (with) McCrispy, we’re in the early days, really building that brand and so looking forward. Will we eventually have a crispy tender? Yes. And will that allow us to eventually have a McCrispy Snack Wrap? Yes. But we’re still in the early days of doing that.”
News of the potential return of the McDonald’s Snack Wrap comes amidst reports of a “mixed results” $5 Value Meal, which will now be extended through August.
