McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Continues

July 22, 2024

McDonald’s will extend its $5 Meal Deal across nearly all U.S. locations through August due to strong customer demand amid rising food prices. The promotion, which was initially planned to only last one month starting in late June, includes a choice of a McDouble cheeseburger or McChicken sandwich, small fries, four-piece Chicken McNuggets, and a small drink.

The deal has been effective in attracting customers back to McDonald’s, according to the company, outpacing some competitors. The success has prompted McDonald’s to consider extending the promotion further beyond August, aiming to sustain increased sales amid a challenging economic environment for fast-food chains.

For now, according to an internal memo CNN received, McDonald’s said that 93% of locations in the U.S. will keep it on the menus throughout August.

McDonald’s introduced the $5 Meal Deal on June 25. Originally a limited-time offer, the deal aims to provide customers with a satisfying meal at an attractive price point.

In addition to the national promotion, local franchisees across the U.S. are enhancing summer enjoyment with region-specific deals. For example, Columbus, Ohio, offers a Double Cheeseburger and small fries for $3.50, Memphis, Tennessee, features a Buy One Get One for $1 breakfast sandwich deal, and western New York provides a McChicken and McDouble combo for $3.99. These localized offers aim to cater to community preferences and provide added value to customers.

McDonald’s is also offering discounts on various beverages such as $1.79 sodas in cities like Cincinnati and Columbus, ensuring customers can stay refreshed during their summer travels.

Since the deal was initially released, results have been mixed so far, according to various experts. While the $5 Meal Deal succeeded in attracting customers seeking value, local promotions varied in effectiveness across different regions. Overall, the $5 Meal Deal from McDonald’s wasn’t attracting mass consumers to their locations, as might have been originally planned by the company.
