Roblox Roundup of Financial Results, Voice Safety, and Data Breach
July 13, 2024
Roblox Corporation will release its second-quarter 2024 financial results on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, before the U.S. markets open. The company will also host a conference call to discuss the results, which will take place the same day at 5:30 a.m. PT / 8:30 a.m. ET. The live webcast will be accessible on the Roblox investor relations website. Once the live event comes to a close, the complete online replay and transcript will remain available for a minimum of 12 months.
Unfortunately, Roblox recently experienced a security breach involving unauthorized access to the personal information of some of its creator community. The breach, linked to FNTech, a vendor coordinating Roblox’s annual conference, exposed data from a 2022-2024 registration list, including names, email addresses, and IP addresses. Over 10,300 registrants were affected, though Roblox claims the number is under 10,000. Roblox’s internal systems were not compromised. This follows a similar breach in 2020, which exposed the data of nearly 4,000 attendees. Roblox has not confirmed if affected users from the recent breach will receive identity protection services.
Furthermore, Roblox is focusing on achieving the highest level of voice safety with its Real-Time Safety system, an end-to-end machine learning model capable of analyzing millions of minutes of voice communication daily to detect policy violations more consistently and accurately than regular human moderators. The system then sends the identified data to another model that specializes in determining and enforcing appropriate consequences. Finally, the consequences model will decide between issuing warnings and severe actions for repeated offenses.
This ambitious project is pioneering multilingual, near real-time voice safety features, starting from scratch with no prior automation or labeled data. Roblox has also open-sourced its initial voice safety model in hopes of helping set an industry standard and fostering further advancements in voice safety technology.
