Google Is Rumored To Be in Talks To Acquire Wiz
July 14, 2024
One of the most dominant tech companies in the world, Google is continuing to make moves in order to continue its influence as well as its nearly unbeatable value. At the rate it’s going, it seems that their perceived strategy is not that far off. Currently, Google is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire a cybersecurity startup firm named Wiz for approximately $23 billion. If this deal does indeed come to fruition, this would be Google’s largest-ever acquisition so far.
According to its official website, Wiz describes how it is “on a mission to help organizations create secure cloud environments that accelerate their businesses. By creating a normalizing layer between cloud environments, our platform enables organizations to rapidly identify and remove critical risks.”
The New York Times also explained how “for years, Google executives have focused on making money outside of online advertising, but Google search, YouTube and its other platforms still bring in three-quarters of Google’s revenue. Buying Wiz would not move the needle overnight, but would forge a connection between Google Cloud and companies that use Wiz to safeguard data held in AWS, Azure and other cloud computing systems.”
Earlier this year, Wiz announced its milestone of raising $1 billion in funds through a combination of multiple investors contributing to the startup. CEO Assaf Rappaport stated that Wiz plans to use the funds for hiring talent, developing new products, and paying for future acquisitions. This follows on the heels of how Wiz performed a successful acquisition of a cloud company named Gem Security.
Wiz, founded in 2020, is currently valued at approximately $12 billion. The startup is based out of New York, but it does have expanded office locations in Arlington, Virginia, Austin, Texas, Denver, Colorado, and internationally in Tel Aviv, Israel.
