BISSELL Voluntarily Recalls 3.2 Million Steam Shot Cleaners
July 18, 2024
BISSELL is voluntarily recalling several models of its Steam Shot Handheld Steam Cleaner due to safety concerns. The affected cleaners, sold in the U.S. and Canada from August 2008 to May 2024, include various model numbers, including 39N7, 39N71, 39N72, and many others.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recall affects around 3.2 million units in total, 355,000 of which were sold in Canada. The CPSC reported that BISSELL “received 183 reports of hot water or steam escaping from the product, including 157 reports of minor burn injuries.”
If you own one of these models, you should stop using the cleaner immediately. Begin by checking the model number located on the product rating label sticker at the bottom of the machine and reviewing BISSELL’s list of recalled models. If your unit is part of the recall, BISSELL instructs consumers to first take a picture of it.
Next, remove the label, place it on the side of the machine beneath the BISSELL logo, and take another photo of the product’s label. If removing the label is not possible, then proceed by cutting the cord near the base of the machine. After performing these steps, take photos of the label and the cut cord, making sure the product is not turned on, in use, or plugged in.
You must then fill out a form to request either a $60 USD/$82 CAD digital credit for use on BISSELL.com or Canada.BISSELL.com or a $40 USD/$55 CAD refund. Expect up to six weeks for digital credit delivery or four to six weeks for a refund. The digital credit is nontransferable, nonrefundable, and must be used on BISSELL’s website. Do not dispose of your Steam Shot cleaner until you have received your digital credit or refund.
If you purchased the product in a two-pack, both items must be prepared this way, and both must be registered with forms to be submitted for claims.
For assistance, BISSELL recommends consumers promptly contact them at 1-855-417-7001 (U.S.) or 1-855-739-1702 (Canada) or email RecallNA@bissell.com. Additional information can be found on the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada websites.
