Macy’s All-Star Week: What We Know
July 15, 2024
On July 10, Macy’s announced its first-ever All-Star Week, a retail week designed to go up against similar sale blowouts such as Amazon Prime Day and Walmart Deals. This All-Star Week was announced as a continuation of its Summer’s Greatest Hits Campaign to celebrate Star Rewards loyalty members. Let’s take a look at what else we know about the Macy’s All-Star Week.
Macy’s All-Star Week: A Celebration of Star Rewards Customers
This summer, Macy’s Summer’s Greatest Hits will continue with the debut of “All-Star Week,” an inaugural event honoring Star Rewards members. All-Star Week, which runs from Tuesday, July 16, through Tuesday, July 23, at Macy’s locations, macys.com, and on the Macy’s app, offers thousands of the best summertime bargains for everyone. For Star Rewards members, there are even more exclusive offers, such as the chance to earn extra points (three times and 10 times on specific brands and categories) and $20 in Star Money during the “most valuable loyalty event of the year.”
“We are excited to continue Macy’s Summer’s Greatest Hits as we surprise and delight our loyalty customers with the launch of our first-ever All-Star Week,” said Max Magni, the company’s chief customer and digital officer, in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Star Rewards features some of the best loyalty benefits and experiences in retail and during this special member only event, we are showcasing thousands of exclusive savings for our best customers. Whether they are entertaining for a backyard barbeque or buying back to school essentials, we have great deals this summer, and several ways to earn more rewards.”
Enhancing summer ensembles, starting back-to-school shopping early, and stocking up on home comfort needs during this exclusive loyalty member event will earn Macy’s Star Rewards members even more benefits. More shopping during All-Star Week means more chances to earn rewards, including three times loyalty points on some purchases made in the categories of handbags, activewear, cosmetics, shoes, and bedding. When members purchase in three or more of these five All-Star Week categories, they will also be eligible to win $20 in Star Money.
The trendiest trends of the season and thrilling sales events are featured in Macy’s Summer’s Greatest Hits, elevating seasonal style while soaking up the sun and finding incredible savings. The ad showcases the best fits for summer, including must-have beauty favorites, special event attire, casual basics, and much more. Summer’s Greatest Hits will enthrall listeners throughout the season for everything from road drives to poolside barbecues to weddings. Special events like All-Star Week will showcase the enjoyable, fulfilling, and carefree nature of the season.
Stiff Competition
Macy’s All-Star Week will be going up against similar weeks offered by Amazon and Walmart.
The intense rivalry between these two retail behemoths is still going strong. Business Insider reports that through July 18, Walmart is selling Walmart+ memberships for $49 a year, which is 50% less than the usual $98 cost. The purpose of this promotion is to build anticipation for Amazon’s Prime Day celebration, which is set for July 16 and 17.
Over the last 10 years, Amazon’s yearly Prime Day sale has established itself as a mainstay in American shopping, greatly increasing the company’s influx of new members. Walmart has introduced its own membership programs in an effort to take market share in reaction to the competition and get a piece of the action.
John David Rainey, chief financial officer of Walmart, reports that the business has noticed a shift in recent months where delivery orders have outpaced in-store pickups. Rainey also saw that Walmart+ members are starting to place more frequent orders, usually for lesser items, which is similar to how Amazon customers purchase.
Similar to Amazon, Walmart has aggressively increased the number of third-party merchants in its marketplace, imitating its approach to provide a wide selection of goods on its online platform. Enhancements made by the retailer to its “store of the future” are also helpful; it is using its network of 4,700 U.S. locations to fulfill online orders.
